The Swedish Bailiffs Court and the Tax Authority have equipped some of their field work force with a new type of mobile personal alarm. The alarm is a pocket mobile device that is also used as an advanced working tool with a built-in GPS navigation system. To ensure secure and reliable communication, Mobiflex and Mobitex services from Multicom Security are used. Multicom Security is the market leader for monitored alarm transmission in Scandinavia.
This new solution improves the working environment for bailiffs and auditors that regularly visit members of the public or businesses. Staff may now send an alarm when performing their job on the field if they feel threatened or need assistance.
"The solution is unique providing increased safety and mobility for staff working away from the office. The equipment is simple to use and at the same time easy to administer and maintain for the IT and security departments", says Andrew Carver, CEO at Multicom Security AB.
In the first phase, the project involves approximately 450 people working with debt collection and tax control at the Bailiffs Court and the Tax Authority. The new mobile personal alarm is based on a handheld computer with built-in GPS navigation, delivered by system integrator Pocket Mobile. By using the handheld computer, the user can administer the offical function lists and check off tasks as they progress throughout the day.
The new alarm functionality means increased security for the staff compared to what has been available to date. With a simple push on a button, staff will be immediately connected to the SOS Alarm response centre. There is also a function that will trigger an alarm automatically after a set time period has passed if the holder of the device does not respond within that timeframe.
The Bailiffs Court and the Tax Authority tested various solutions before chosing the system jointly provided by Multicom Security, Pocket Mobile and SOS Alarm. Today there is a choice of two types of handheld computers and also a vehicle mounted device that uses the private Multicom Security Mobitex network in areas where there is no public GSM network coverage.
