Forget about the problems of paying by card in the shops. Multicom POS, a new service from Multicom Security, is being launched to ensure that a shop owner can now have a monitored wireless standby connection for card transactions. The back-up connection takes over automatically if there is a failure on the fixed line.

Multicom Security is the Scandinavian leader in monitored alarms with both traditional and IP-based transmission. The company is now taking its expertise into an entirely new market.

“We have tens of thousands of demanding business customers who use our services to ensure that an alarm really does reach the alarm centre. Whether payments or alarms are sent via the network makes no great difference in purely technical terms. We can therefore now add further value with a smart service such as Mutlicom POS,” says Erik Tjerneld, Sales and Marketing Manager at Multicom Security.

Multicom POS is a communications service with monitored wireless back-up for all payments transactions sent from places like a shop, a filling station or a supermarket to payment agents and redemption agents.

The advantages of Multicom POS are many. If the fixed line breaks down, the card transactions automatically switch over to Multicom Security’s wireless back-up without the checkout personnel or customers being aware. The personnel avoid manual and time-consuming work with the irritation of queues forming. Moreover, the automatic credit control is secured and card purchases can be carried out without discernible credit risk.

A connection via Multicom POS also works much more quickly than if a dial-up card reader is used. The time from the card being swiped in the reader to the transaction reaching the payment agent is reduced from 20-30 seconds with a dial-up modem, to 1 second.

The new service is to be presented for the first time at the Butiksleverantörsmässan [the Shop Suppliers’ Trade Fair] in Sollentuna, on 2-3 April.
