Multicom Security is the first to offer a mobile data service with fixed IP addresses at a fixed price. This is welcome, not least to the rapidly growing market for machine-to-machine (M2M) where large volumes of data need to be sent. At the same time Mobiflex Access is being launched, a new supplementary service that simplifies remote control of equipment with fully retained security.
“Wireless M2M and remote control is going to really explode during 2008. The technology has thus far been quite costly and complicated, but we now recognise entirely new areas of application with GPRS and 3G that nobody thought of just a few years ago,” says Johnny Olsen, Product Manager at Multicom Security.
Multicom Mobiflex employs fixed public IP addresses as opposed to other solutions. This makes it easier to integrate machine communications with other systems while, at the same time, the security remains high.
One innovation is that Multicom Mobiflex can now be obtained at a fixed price. This is suited to all who have a need to send large volumes of data, e.g. pictures from a fixed mounted camera to a central system. At the same time there is better control over the costs of machine communications.
Mobiflex Access is a new Multicom Mobiflex supplementary service that addresses businesses that have field technicians with PCs and mobile broadband. With Mobiflex Access it is possible to connect from absolutely any IP connection with fully retained security, in order to remotely control things like machines, pumps and other equipment.
Multicom Mobiflex is based on TeliaSonera’s GPRS and 3G network and works superbly with so-called turbo-3G (HSDPA). With a router and a Multicom Security subscription, you can be really flexible, and control how the communications are to be handled and where the equipment is to be positioned.
“The technology is important, but the real test is what support is gained as a customer. Our product is, first and foremost, attractive to small and medium-sized customers who are looking for quality, i.e. both smart functions and good support and customer service,” explains Johnny Olsen.
Multicom Mobiflex can be used for things like surveillance cameras and other applications that require high transfer capacity. In addition, it is suited to industrial automation where, for example, robots need to be manoeuvred remotely, and in property automation where ventilation, electricity, air-conditioning etc. are controlled.
